Skin regeneration and rejuvenation techniques based on cutting-edge cell research techniques are allowing people to halt or even reverse the effects of ageing skin by restoring the cells that keep it young and healthy, providing an alternative to cosmetic surgery or chemical-based treatments such as Botox.

Your skin is made up of three layers: the epidermis, the thin outer layer; the dermis, below that, made up of cells called fibroblasts; and the inner layer, the hypodermis.

Dermal fibroblasts have the role of making new collagen and elastin fibres, the materials that keep your skin healthy and youthful.

Unfortunately, as your body ages, the number of fibroblasts decreases, along with the amount of collagen, elastin and other substances they produce. That reduces your skin’s tone and elasticity, and causes wrinkles and other signs of ageing, such as dry skin and pigment spots.

ilaya’s innovative method of skin rejuvenation is based on a simple idea: Keeping the number of fibroblasts at the level that’s typical for young skin can help keep your skin younger and slow down the ageing process.

How does it work?

We do this by taking fibroblasts from your body, cultivating them in a laboratory (in vitro), then returning them to your body by simple injections (under the skin). Raising the number of fibroblasts increases your skin’s production of collagen and elastin fibres, hyaluronic acid and regulatory proteins, improving your skin’s condition and appearance, and slowing down the ageing process.

Our fibroblast-based treatment helps the body to rejuvenate itself using its own tissues, which distinguishes it from chemical-based treatments such as Botox. While Botox is a proven technique and quite safe, it can still have unwanted side effects, such as a droopy eyelid or a crooked smile, and in rare cases the botulism toxin that it’s based on can spread to other areas of the body. And although the procedure itself is relatively quick and painless, Botox wears off, and needs to be re-applied as often as every three months to maintain the effect.

Fibroblasts vs other treatments

One of the key reasons for choosing Botox over surgery is that it’s minimally invasive; our fibroblast procedure offers the same benefit, with longer-lasting results. Facelift surgery also requires some form of anaesthetic, and is followed by about two weeks of recovery time. And the results of fibroblast-based treatment appear gradually, making them less obvious than a facelift.

However, do bear in mind that because the treatment requires us to collect cells from your body and then cultivate them in our lab before re-injecting them, it will require at least two visits to our clinic in Kiev, Ukraine (easily accessible by air from Western Europe and the Middle East).

ilaya has been offering innovative medical treatments since 2011, when it was founded by medical and scientific professionals who already had a decade of working with cell cultures. Our skin rejuvenation service grew out of our work in using adult stem cells for purposes such as bone regeneration and treating Asherman’s syndrome, one of the leading causes of infertility.
